On the street the dominance of the metro-sexual might be waning, and bearded lads are sprouting all over the place, but there are still a few trends for the guys to follow this spring/summer.
ArtsHub takes a look at the top five doing the rounds at the Spring/Summer fashion festivals.
Blue Stripes
Pirates always seem to be on a summer holiday, so it would only stand to reason that one of the big looks for leisurely lads this year is a thick white and blue stripe top. T-shirt or long sleeve no matter, under a jacket or alone, the bold simplicity will turn any office worker into a cabin boy.
Chinos
Before Ryan Attwood, the bad boy with a heart of gold in last decade’s popular teen drama The OC was nicknamed Chino (on account of his rough upbringing in the town of the same name), Chinos were a pair of relaxed, straight legged pants. The most popular are beige, and the fashion eagle eyes amongst us will have noticed their recent resurgence, with the cuffs rolled up to the ankle to propose a cool nonchalance.
Biker Fashion
Even if you’ve only sat on a Harley in a display at the Hard Rock Café, you can still pretend with the old black leather biker’s jacket. Think Matt Dillon in The Outsiders and you’ll be half way to grease chic.
Prep Look
What do you wear when you’re invited to the polo? Something preppy and collegial is what, something classical. And the best way to achieve this is with sharply cut blazers. By no means a new trend, this year’s prep look is different because of the colours - blues, white, red and greens.
Utility
Utility has moved beyond the cargo-pants in favour of a fashionable simplicity. Think beige and olive green coloured safari jackets and light summer trenches.
Perhaps the main thing to remember this summer is the return of colour. Like a technicolour sunrise, a rainbow palate is set to wash away the dreary grey of winter.
