The Embroidery Art Exhibition features classical Chinese paintings, oil paintings, portraits, flowers and birds in the form of intricate needlework by Ms. Yao Hong Ying, a renowned embroidery artist from Suzhou, China.
Born in Zhen Hu village in Suzhou, she grew up in a family of embroidery artists. Under the apprenticeships of various embroidery masters, Ms. Yao has continued to enhance her craft over the years. She has won numerous awards internationally and is considered an elite artisan in the embroidery industry of Zhenhu.
Embroidery is an expression of lines. For Ms. Yao, the needle is her paintbrush and the threads are her colours. She incorporates thin and thick threads, long and short stitches, splitting a single thread into one-half, one-thirty-second, and even one-sixty-forth, making the stitches extremely fine and intricate, creating combinations of lines with beautiful rich expressions. This exhibition displays exceptional quality craftsmanship, full of charm and splendour.
