About the Festival
Festival of Voices is Tasmania's leading winter event. In 2009 more then 35 choirs travelled from across Australia to take part in the Festival. More than 10,000 participants attended concerts, performances and workshops across the city and gathered under the night sky for the Festival Bonfire and Big Sing in Salamanca Place on Hobart's historic waterfront. Major concerts and workshops were booked out weeks in advance. National guest artists and international choral directors from the USA and the UK, including Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, Myron Butler, and Britain's leading choral director, Mike Brewer, OBE, thrilled audiences and workshop participants alike. The Festival Finale Concert was broadcast live across Australia on ABC Radio National.
Festival of Voices is a place for Singing, Performing and Learning. The Festival is inclusive, collaborative and non-competitive with opportunities for everyone. Established in 2005, the Festival's mission is to be a world gathering of choirs celebrating the power and joy of the voice.
The Festival contributes significantly to Tasmania during the winter period providing important outcomes that enrich the community creatively, socially, spiritually and economically.
