OUR ABORIGINAL ART COLLECTION:
The Kate Owen Gallery, specialises in quality contemporary Aboriginal artwork, selected to enhance modern interiors. At the top end, we stock highly collectible aboriginal artworks ranging from the famous Clifford Possum, to the extraordinary Rothko-esque colour fields of Emily Kngwarreye's brother Kudditji Kngwarreye, the unique colour variations of Makinti Napanangka in her womens hair skirt ceremony paintings and many, many more.
For the more speculative buyer or simply for lovers of beautiful art, our established and emerging aboriginal artists, including those from remote Aboriginal Community Art Centres, are a source of brilliant images with a wealth of variety in colour, texture, subject matter and technique.
We have extensive stock of small, medium and large sized indigenous paintings, which can satisfy the needs of designers of contemporary domestic interiors as well as provide Aboriginal masterworks for corporations foyers, board rooms and public areas. In addition to our stock of over 700 artworks, we are able to source or commission particular works to meet client needs.
All our indigenous art is guaranteed authentic (with certificates of authenticity, biographies and in most cases, work in progress photographs provided). Although visually highly contemporary, the majority of our indigenous artworks use ancient iconography and embody traditional Aboriginal (creation) dreamings passed down unchanged for thousands of years in Australia's timeless indigenous culture.
THE WORK OF KATE OWEN:
Kate Owen, owner of the gallery, is herself a collectible artist of some note. She is best known for her powerful and unique paintings of the Australian Outback: strong and contemporary paintings with the bold, improbable vistas of the harsh Australian landscape from wetlands to grasslands to shining waters or the famous red deserts of central Australia. Kate's works are semi-abstract iconic paintings with strong design elements and fascinating detail in both texture and content. At the same time, the paintings have the undeniable stillness and spirituality one feels in such remote places. Media include oil painting, acrylic, egg tempera, encaustic and mixed media on Belgian linen, canvas or board.
Owen's work captures the strong colours and spirit of Outback Australia and hangs comfortably with the Aboriginal Paintings it is a different perspective of the same land.
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY:
We offer a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee with all our original paintings, and so we encourage people to take their chosen artworks home to try them in situ for a while, to make sure that it fits into their home and their lifestyle.
DIGITAL HANGING:
This service, especially useful for interior designers, architects and people who are just too busy to visit the gallery, lets you send us digital images of the space you want artwork for (including colour and taste preferences etc.) and we will select and digitally hang some options in the space for you. You receive your images back by email - and you can see exactly how each painting will look in the room. So easy!
GIFT CERTIFICATES:
Our gift certificates are a little different. They are three dimensional - a little original painting (which can be hung straight away) with a plastic sleeve containing a $$ certificate on the back. It's much more classy to give than an envelope, and the lucky recipient can come into the gallery when they are ready to choose the rest of the gift. The little painting is free with gifts of over $100.
WEDDING AND GIFT REGISTRY:
Whenever a group of people want to give a special gift, this can be the perfect answer. Very appropriate for wedding gift giving, it is also ideal for anniversaries, major birthday celebrations, resignations, graduations, farewells - the list is endless. For more information about how this works, please go to the 'Gift Registry' link on our home page.
COMMISSIONED WORKS:
Many of our indigenous artists paint directly for us, so we are often able to commission paintings in the size and style you would like. (Kate also, paints works on commission for her own clients. Her working studio forms part of the second level of the gallery.) In the vast majority of cases, it costs no more to commission a painting than to buy one that has already been created - so you can have the advantage of an artwork specifically painted for you and in exactly the size, and even colour range you desire.
SOURCING ARTWORK:
If you are seeking a particular artwork which is not available either at the gallery or by commission, we will happily source the work on your behalf.
HOME OR BUSINESS CONSULTANCY:
If you like, one of our consultants can attend your home or business to assist you in selecting the right piece of art. She can recommend and subsequently bring artworks specifically chosen to enhance your space. This saves you considerable time, as our consultant will bring only the most suitable works from our collection of over 600 pieces.
As you will see when you visit us, we have many other differentiating services to make your experience with our gallery a pleasant one.
