Rock Eisteddfod Challenge

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge

Now celebrating its 32nd year!

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge events are produced by the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge Foundation, a not for profit organisation. The event is a unique and exciting opportunity for schools to take part in a dance, drama and design spectacular where the students are the stars. Each year, the events are professionally staged in some of Australia's top entertainment venues.

As part of the Global Rock Challenge, nearly 300 Australian schools and 25,000 students compete in Rock Eisteddfod Challenge and J Rock shows across Australia.

How does it work?
Teams as small as 20 or as large as 142 students plan an eight-minute performance based on a theme of their choice and set it to contemporary commercially available music. Students, teachers and entire communities work together over a period of months planning and rehearsing, before competing against other schools at events in a 100% drug and alcohol free environment.

J ROCK
Primary students across Australia asked for their own Rock Eisteddfod Challenge event and in 2004 they got it, as J Rock launched in style to commemorate the event's 25th Anniversary in Australia.

In 2005 J ROCK was firmly cemented into the Global Rock Challenge family. Nearly 11,000 students from schools around Australia rocked on stage in scores of venues and all embraced the key healthy lifestyle values of the event.

More than 100 schools around the nation performed their hearts out, participated in Healthy Food Fun Fairs, skipped with Jump Rope for Heart teams, worked out with Fitness First and generally caught the J Rock spirit.

Just like their high school cousins J Rock provides the opportunity for primary school students to tell a story of their choice, on stage with costumes and music in front of a live audience. Utilising the same prestigious venues and A class production equipment provided for the high school event.
